Kaštela.

Kaštela stretches along a wide bay between Split and Trogir, made up of seven villages that share the name Kaštel: Sućurac, Gomilica, Kambelovac, Lukšić, Stari, Novi, and Štafilić. Each grew around a fortified stone house built by noble families from Split and Trogir who sought refuge on the coast, giving the area its name — kaštel means castle. Many of these fortified houses still stand, their walls facing the water, surrounded by narrow lanes and small fishing harbours.

Behind the villages, olive groves and vineyards rise gently toward the hills, a sign that farming has shaped local life as much as the sea has. Stone churches and quiet courtyards link one Kaštel to the next along a continuous waterfront promenade, with small boats moored along the shore in every village. Daily life follows the rhythm of fishing, tending groves, and the bay itself. Away from the busier centres of Split and Trogir, Kaštela keeps a quieter, more local character, with produce markets, family-run konoba taverns, and pebble beaches tucked between the settlements.
