Rab town stands on a narrow peninsula on Rab island, its skyline marked by four bell towers rising above the old streets. Stone lanes climb from the harbour past Romanesque churches and Gothic palaces, built during the centuries when Rab belonged to Venice. St. Mary's Cathedral and the tower of St. Justine anchor the old town, while Komrčar Park spreads along its edge with Mediterranean plants.
The island's landscape splits in two: one half covered in forest, the other bare and rocky, cut by inlets and sandy coves that are unusual along the Adriatic coast. Rajska Plaža, known as Paradise Beach, stretches along the shore near Lopar, while smaller bays close to town suit quieter swimming. Family-run restaurants serve island lamb and Rab cake, a local pastry. Each summer, the Rab Medieval Festival fills the old streets with knight tournaments.
