Osthoffen is a small village in the Bas-Rhin, about 15 kilometres west of Strasbourg, at the foot of the Vosges hills where the Alsace wine route begins. The village centres on the Château d'Osthoffen, a medieval castle that has been continuously inhabited since the 13th century and enriched by successive owners over the centuries with Renaissance and Baroque additions. The château is still privately owned and lived in today, offering a rare and genuine sense of continuity — it feels like a home that happens to have towers. The surrounding village is typical Alsace: half-timbered houses, a church with a bulbous steeple, and stork nests on rooftops. It makes an excellent quiet base for the Alsace wine route, just far enough from Strasbourg to avoid the tourist circuit.
