Vela Luka stretches along the western end of Korčula island, where a deep natural bay has sheltered fishing boats and trading vessels for millennia. The town lives around its waterfront, lined with cafés, seafood restaurants, and palm trees, while small beaches hide in nearby coves. Archaeological sites scattered around the bay tell stories of ancient settlements, including the famous Vela Spila cave where prehistoric artifacts have been found. Local families still fish, farm olives, and make wine on terraced hillsides above town. The pace is slow, the atmosphere relaxed, and the surrounding waters ideal for swimming, diving, and island-hopping by boat.
